Chuck
Dube achieved his first tournament victory in the inaugural
RCL MN League tournament on the Mississippi River on May 10,
2003. For the details on Chuck's first place finish, see RCL
MN League Tournament Win on Mississippi River on the article
page.
Chuck Dube was born and raised in Williston, ND, along the
Missouri River. His
dad Bob Dube, is an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman. Chuck
and his brothers Jeff and Kym developed a love for the outdoors
growing up hunting for deer, pheasants, and geese; trapping
coyotes, fox, beaver, and mink with their dad; and fishing
for walleyes and paddlefish in the Missouri River.
Chuck
first developed his fishing tournament fever by winning a
paddlefish derby at the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone
rivers in 1982. His 96 lb. paddlefish topped a field of 200
anglers and to this day remains the largest fish caught in
that tournament. That year the state record was 102 lbs. These
fish are caught by pulling a large treble hook with a two
ounce weight across the bottom of the river snagging the fish.
When hooking paddlefish, they often jump completely out of
the water. They average 25 to 65 pounds. It is a unique fishing
experience.
Chuck
and his dad spent many days fishing for walleyes on the reservoir
created on the Missouri River called Lake Sakakawea. The upper
stretch of reservoir from White Earth bay to Williston produced
many limits of nice walleye and sauger for them over the years.
In the fall, the fish move into the river portion above the
reservoir and nice fish are caught along the willow bars.
Ice fishing in the winter produces phenomenal catches. Brother
Kym has 13 lb. 8 oz and a 13 lb. 2 oz. walleyes to his credit.
This portion of the Missouri river does not receive a lot
of fishing pressure.
In 1986, Chuck moved to the Minneapolis, MN area for a new
job. Over the years he has spent many days on Mille Lacs and
the Mississippi River fishing for walleyes. The stretch of
river from Hastings to Lake Pepin (pools 3 & 4) produces
many nice walleyes. It is Chuck's belief that bigger fish
on average come out of the river than anywhere else in the
state.
In
1998 Chuck started fishing PWT and NAWA pro/am tournaments
as an amateur. It turned out to be a great experience learning
new techniques in walleye fishing from the seasoned professionals
that he fished with. In 1999 Chuck was runner up for amateur
angler of the year on the NAWA circuit and was the amateur
champion at Lake Okoboji fishing with the late Norb Wallock.
After having a number of top 15 tournament finishes in the
USFA walleye circuit in 2000-2001; Chuck started fishing professionally
on the RCL Walleye Circuit.

Chuck achieved his first tournament victory in the inaugural
RCL MN League tournament on the Mississippi River on May 10,
2003. For details, see the story on the article page. He is
a 4-time RCL Championship qualifier. Currently, he is competing
in FLW Walleye Tour and League events.
