Tournament
Circuits

The FLW
Walleye Tour is one of the two premier walleye tournament
circuits available to professional anglers. Wal-Mart is the
primary sponsor for this circuit along with other fishing
and marine manufacturers and companies. The purses paid out
for this circuit are the best offered in the sport today.
The tournaments are set up with a Pro/Am (professional/amateur)
format meaning that the professional is randomly paired with
an amateur angler for each day of fishing. Both participants
carry the total weight of fish caught for the day forward
to the next day of competition with their new partner. Qualifying
tournaments run for four days with the top ten anglers fishing
on the final day. First place purses for these events run
as high as $100,000. Four qualifying tournaments are held
on various walleye waters around the country. The top 50 anglers,
based on point totals from the qualifying tournaments, qualify
for the championship at the end of the season. The first place
purse for the tournament can pay as much as $150,000.
The FLW
Walleye League Tournament Circuit is one that is set up
for competitive anglers in their respective state. Three qualifying
tournaments are held on various waters over weekends in MN,
WI, and MI. Points are kept for the three tournaments and
the top 35 anglers from each state qualify for the championship,
which is held at the end of the season in September. The format
for these tournaments is similar to the FLW Tour in that each
boater is randomly paired with a non-boater for each day of
fishing. The tournaments are quite affordable but still pay
a lucrative purse of around $7500 for a top finish. The winner
of the championship receives a fully equipped boat valued
at $47,500.
